4 Ways to Avoid Sun Glare – Advice from a Greenville Car Accident Lawyer

November 11, 2015

Sun glare is a common cause of car accidents – especially when combined with negligent driving. In fact, according to the Daily Mail , sun glare contributes to more than 3,000 crashes each year, and it is particularly common as winter approaches. This is because the sun is lower on the horizon.

There are several ways you can prevent sun glare when you are driving, and this can help you avoid a collision. If you are unfortunate enough to fall victim to a negligent driver, then waste no time and call the Churdar Law Firm.

Doug Churdar is a Greenville personal-injury lawyer who can evaluate your case to determine if you may have valid grounds for a lawsuit. Call us today at 864-233-0203 to schedule a consultation.

In the meantime, read on to learn four tips for preventing sun glare:

1. Clean Your Windows

The most important step that you can take is to clean your vehicle’s windows. The AAA recommends that you make sure both the inside and outside of your windows are clean.

Hose down the outside windows with water to remove dirt. Then lift the windshield wipers to clean the window with a cloth. Use soap to make sure you clean the glass properly. Clean in a straight line, from the top to the bottom of the windshield, so you do not miss any areas.

Remove the soapy water with the hose, and clear excess water with a rubber blade. Dry the windshield with a cloth. Examine the window carefully for any spots that you may have missed.

Do not forget to clean the inside of the window, as well. Use a soft cloth, window cleaner, and newspaper to make sure they are clean.

2. Maintain Your Wiper Blades

Your wiper blades are critical to your safety. If they are dirty, then they will undo your hard work of cleaning the window, and they will reduce your visibility. Wipe them down with a damp cloth, and use warm water and soap if stubborn dirt remains. Top up your windshield wash reservoir to make sure you have enough water or fluid to clean your windows automatically from time to time.

3. Use Visors and Sunglasses

If you find the sun is distracting you, pull your car’s visor down to block the direct glare. A pair of sunglasses with polarizing lenses can also help.

4. Reduce Your Speed

If you round a corner only to face harsh sunlight, do not panic and slam on the brakes. Try to slow down safely, and be aware that other drivers around you may also have difficulty seeing. If you brake too suddenly, then you run the risk of becoming the victim of a rear-end accident.

Sun glare can cause serious collisions – particularly if another driver is acting negligently or recklessly. If you were in a crash that another driver caused, then the Churdar Law Firm may be able to help. A Greenville car accident lawyer can guide you through the claims process.
