Former South Carolina News Anchor’s Daughter Dies in Crash

February 2, 2015

Serious car accidents happen every day. Although these stories populate the media with tragic headlines, few of them make national press—that is, unless they involve celebrity families.

This was the case in a recent tragic accident that involved well-known news anchor Marty Matthews. He was a passenger in a car with his daughter and her husband, who was driving at the time.

According to reports, the crash occurred on Christmas Eve and took the life of Matthew’s 28-year-old daughter. Her husband sustained serious injuries.

The roads were slick at the time due to inclement weather. The husband allegedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into trees on the roadside. Police say it was raining at the time.

The victim died at the scene, and her husband sustained critical injuries. According to the most recent reports, he is still in intensive care at a nearby hospital. Police are still investigating the incident.

What to Do After Car Accidents That Cause Injuries or Fatalities

Not all accidents end in tragedy, but those that do often leave victims with insurmountable medical bills. Serious injuries may prevent victims from returning to work, putting their families in financial jeopardy.

If an accident results from driver negligence, victims may be entitled to compensation to pay for medical expenses and lost wages. Every case is different, though, which is why the guidance of a Greenville personal-injury lawyer may prove invaluable. The Churdar Law Firm can assess your case to determine if you have a legitimate claim. Schedule an appointment today by calling us at 864-233-0203.

Toddler Survives Fatal Crash Near South Carolina Border

Fox 8 reports that a man and his fiancée died in a tragic one-vehicle crash. Fortunately, their toddler survived.

Police say the two victims were both South Carolina residents. A neighbor called 911 to report the accident, and medical responders arrived on the scene. Emergency workers transported the 2-year-old boy to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The vehicle they were driving left the roadway and hit a ditch adjacent to the road. The car flipped, and neither of the victims was wearing a seatbelt at the time. Police are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.

How Common Are Fatal Car Accidents in South Carolina?

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety claims that one person dies on the state’s roads every 9.8 hours, and one person sustains serious injuries every 10.9 minutes. There are also a number of car accidents in the state that claim or alter young lives, with one teenage driver involved in a fatal or injury crash every 1.3 hours.

These figures may be alarming, but they are the reality of driving on South Carolina’s roads.
